Admission Decisions

Group observations for applicants to Kinder 1, Kinder 2 and Kinder 3 are scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2014.  Admission notifications will be sent to Kinder 1, Kinder 2 and Kinder 3 applicants on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.  If admitted, enrollment contracts are due Friday, March 14, 2014.

Age & Potty-training Requirements DMIS refers to the 3-year-old, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes as Kinder 1, Kinder 2 and Kinder 3, respectively, to accurately reflect the academic curricula offered at these earlier stages, and to correspond with the foreign curricula that DMIS follows from China, France and Spain.

• A prospective Kinder 1 student must:
  • Turn 3 years old by Dec. 31 of the year in which he or she is enrolled.
  • Be potty-trained before the first day of school. No pull-up diapers will be allowed. DMIS accommodates “accidents.” However, when DMIS deems accidents too frequent, parents will be asked to keep their children at home. Parents will remain responsible for the student’s tuition and fees as contracted.
• A prospective Kinder 2 student must:
  • Turn 4 years old by Dec. 31 of the year in which he or she is enrolled.
• A prospective Kinder 3 student must:
  • Turn at least 5 years old by Dec. 31 of the year in which he or she is enrolled.

Please note:  Other schools may have age policies differing from DMIS’ policies. For example, DMIS’ Dec. 31 age deadline is three months past the Oct. 1 age deadline set by the Colorado Department of Education for public school admission. Parents wanting to enroll their children in a different school will need to follow that school’s age requirements.

ECE/Kindergarten Tuition & Fees for 2013-14

Full-time student tuition: $12,510 Part-time student tuition (Kinder 1 only, by invitation only): $8,131.50

Tuition Payment Plans With the enrollment contract, one month of the total tuition amount is due, along with the Work Bond Deposit, the Activity Fee and the Tuition Refund Insurance Premium, if applicable.

• One Payment – The tuition deposit is deducted from the total tuition, and the balance is due by August 1 of each year or on the first day of the month in which the student begins attending DMIS.
• Monthly Payments – DMIS breaks the annual tuition into nine equal payments, the first of which is due with the enrollment contract. The tuition deposit deducted from the total tuition is divided into equal payments based on the date the student begins at DMIS. Tuition payments are due the first day of each month, commencing September 1 of each year and ending May 1 of each year (excluding February). Purchase of the Tuition Refund Insurance Plan is required if a monthly payment plan is selected.

Tuition Refund Insurance Plan Tuition insurance is available at an additional charge of 2.7% of the tuition amount. Families opting for the monthly payment plan are required by the insurance provider to purchase Tuition Refund Insurance. Tuition insurance is optional for families who choose a one-time payment plan. Tuition insurance is due with the enrollment contract. The plan is administered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. and more information is available at tuitionrefundplan.com. The plan is billed through DMIS in July or the first day of the month in which the student starts at DMIS. The first sibling of a currently enrolled DMIS student will receive a 10% discount on his or her tuition. Additional siblings will receive a 20% tuition discount.

Work Bond — $400 per family DMIS successfully keeps tuition rates low because it counts on parents to help defray the school’s costs. Each year, families are required to submit a $400 “Work Bond” deposit. If families complete 20 hours of service to the school during the academic year, the deposit rolls over to the next year. Twenty hours of service is easy for each family to achieve.

Activity Fee — $300 per student A portion of the fees collected is intended to cover some or all of the costs associated with the overnight trips and international travel, in which students participate in elementary grades.  DMIS strives to minimize costs and maximize the value of overnight and international travel, consistent with the educational mission of the school.  However, due to the variable costs of such travel, including costs beyond the control of DMIS (e.g., the cost of airline tickets and other travel-related expenses), Parent/s may be required to pay some of the costs associated with these trips.  Any additional costs not covered will be communicated to parents as soon as actual costs are determined. Moreover, DMIS reserves sole discretion as to which trips, if any, will be offered in any particular academic year.  Finally, the Annual Student Activity Fee may be modified in any academic year at the sole discretion of DMIS.

Financial Assistance at DMIS

Each year, DMIS’ Board of Directors designates a limited amount of financial assistance to be awarded to qualifying families whose children attend DMIS full-time.  Priority for awards is given to families with children who have completed at least one full year at the school.  The maximum amount of assistance attainable per child (excluding extra-curricular activities, daycare, camps, bus, lunch, etc.) for returning families is 100% of base tuition, depending upon the grade.
